The current value(s) of setting in input: empty when the setting is not in play (its
stage does not run, or its method is not selected), one value per place it is set otherwise.
None for a path that is not in SETTINGS.
Whether background removal and field mapping run depends on the inversion’s input
(InversionConfig::input), which for TGV depends on
the echo count; that difference is only between two inputs that both skip background removal,
so one echo is assumed when the count is not known.
A per-echo reconstruction (QsmPipelineConfig::qsm_per_echo) runs every stage on one echo
at a time, so its inversion’s input is the one-echo input, and the settings that combine or
compare echoes (the echo combination and its weighting, phase-offset removal and its sigma,
bipolar correction) are not in play.
